📝 Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 300g of flour
  • 150g of cold butter
  • 1 egg
  • 50g of sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of cold water

For the topping:

  • 6 to 8 apples (Golden Delicious or Reinette)
  • 80g of sugar
  • 50g of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of applesauce (optional)

👨🍳 Preparation

Step 1: Prepare the dough

  1. Mix the flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl
  2. Add the butter, cut into small pieces , and rub it in with your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  3. Incorporate the egg and cold water, knead quickly
  4. Form into a ball, wrap in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes

Step 2: Prepare the apples

  1. Peel and cut the apples into thin wedges
  2. Sprinkle them with lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.
  3. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, mix gently.

Step 3: Assemble and bake

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C
  2. Roll out the dough and line a buttered tart tin.
  3. Spread the compote on the bottom (optional) then arrange the apples in a rosette pattern
  4. Dot with knobs of butter and sprinkle with sugar
  5. Bake for 45 minutes until the pastry is golden brown

  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or fresh cream
  • You can add raisins or flaked almonds.
  • The tart will keep for 3 days in an airtight container
